Third party propaganda attacks incoming Labour-led government

Further to a report by Daily Blogger, Chris Trotter, on receiving information regarding planned attack-billboards, the following billboard is highly visible to traffic on the southbound lane of the Wellington motorway, just prior to the Murphy St turn-off.

I had noticed the billboard mid-last-week, and today had an opportunity to take the following images;

.

election billboards - hoardings - Greens - Labour - dirty politics

The authorisation statement does exist – but is barely legible on the bottom left of the massive billboard.

Combining the distance from the motorway and an obstructing motorway barrier, the authorisation statement is not visible from the road. The large green and red lettering, though, stands out clearly to all passing traffic.

Even by zooming in, the authorisation statement is barely legible;

Someone has a lot of money to spend, to frighten voters away from a Labour-led government.

Is this what John Key meant when he opined that we were focusing too much on Dirty Politics and not on policies and issues?! And if not, will he condemn these billboard(s) with the same intensity he slammed Nicky Hager’s book?

I doubt it.

Final question: is an authorisation statement that is barely legible to drivers, as well as obstructed by the motorway side-barrier, actually legal?

    Yawn!

    The authorisation statement must actually be quite large given, as you say yourself, it’s a “massive billboard”. The authorisation statement alone is probably bigger than many election signs stuck to residential fences, garages etc around the country. Can you read the authorisation statement on those, even as you walk/drive past it? No, think you might need to use your maximum zoom.

    This billboard, and rightly so, raises awareness of the fact that choosing to vote for the Greens instead of Labour isn’t the solution if you no longer (if you ever did) endorse Labour leading the next government. It reinforces that a vote for the Greens, based on current polling, still essentially means a vote towards a Labour led government if the minor parties collectively gain sufficient support to knit together some kind of coalition.

    Even then it will be difficult for Cunliffe to form any government, let alone a stable government now that he’s said that there will be no more than 3 parities in his government. He’s probably referring to an engagement party, a divorce party, and then a wake.

    Why should John Key condemn this billboard? I thought we lived in a country where freedom of expression and free speech existed. Will David Cunliffe condemn the left-wing vandals who are destroying right-wing billboards? No, he doesn’t even want them held to account. The billboard you refer to in this article is a peaceful warning for voters, not a destructive act of vandalism.

    Will you be writing a blog on Martyn/Martin Bradbury being on the electoral role twice? Will you investigate why he confirmed for each name that his details were correct? Will you contact the electoral commission to see if both Martyn Bradbury and Martin Bradbury have voted? If they have, can you please find out if they voted at different polls stations. That would be priceless.

      Ms Parker, if I can gain your attention in between your yawning…

      Martyn Bradbury gave a succint explanation what lay behind the two entries for his name here: http://thedailyblog.co.nz/2014/09/08/cameron-slaters-latest-ridiculous-claim/

      In part, he stated with considerable clarity;

      For some reason my name was misspelled when I enrolled, so I enrolled it as Martyn Bradbury, not Martin Bradbury. It is a clerical mistake.

      Because really, when you think about it, only a moron would think that if someone wanted to rort the system, that they would use two near-identical names, with identical address, to create two voting identities.

      Truly. Only a moron.

      A moron like a typical right winger who was so eager to smear another person that they over-look the bleedin’ obvious; that it was a typo by the electoral commission;

      Martin Bradbury
      Martyn Bradbury

      Wow! What a clever disguise!!! Whodathunk it?!

      I could disguise myself on the electoral roll like this;

      Frank Macskasy
      Frank MacSkasy

      Cunning eh?

      If that’s the best you people can come up with to try to destroy someone’s credibility, then no wonder Nicky Hager was able to so easily uncover the dirty politics that people like you engage in.

      Even then it will be difficult for Cunliffe to form any government, let alone a stable government now that he’s said that there will be no more than 3 parities in his government.

      That will be up to voters to decide, not politicians.

      However, I think I’d rather be in Cunliffe’s shoes rather than your hero, John Key, who is now facing the prospect of a six-headed hydra-creature; National-NZ First-Maori Party-United Future-ACT-Conservative Party!!!

      – Most whom can’t even bear to be in the same room as each other!

      It almost makes me look forward to seeing how Key juggles this six-headed mutant-monster!

      Have a nice day.
