On the issue of National Party dirty politics…
Once National is defeated, Key will be gone, as he promised in January 2011.
That will leave National seeking not just a new leader – but a change in culture.
All the dirty tricks; black ops; media spin-doctors; sleaze; ministerial mis-use of power – all will have to go. The new Leader will be given a broom, and boy oh boy, s/he’ll be busy sweeping clean.
If s/he doesn’t, the legacy of the Collins-Ede-Slater-Lusk-Key cabal will remain, a Blighted Future for a once proud party.
Ironically, National is the party of “personal responsibility” and the responsibility for cleaning up their foul mess lies solely with them.

As always, let us know what becomes of this!
Deb
😉
Will Labour/Greens/NZ First/ Internet Mana et al do the same. Just because the Hager book is about National and it’s bloggers does not mean every other party doesn’t do the same. Clarke used to unleash her attack dog when things got sleazy.
Politics is a dirty business.
It means no such thing, Jo.
What “attack dog” are you referring to? Names please?
There is no left-wing equivalent to “Whale oil” on the left.
I think she means Mallard, Frank. But he’s hardly been corrupt ^^
More silly. An incident with a particular colleague…. But didn’t threaten death as far as I know. Did he have corrupt dealings for personal gain like Collins? Well now I’m going to have to claim ignorance.
Mallard? Hmmm, I guess he could count as an “attack dog”, Michael.
Still, at least Mallard is a poli and does it out in the open. Not in the back-shadows like Ede and Slater. Sio the good folk of Hutt South can get rid of him via the ballot box.
Still, if that’s the best Jo can come up with… To quote Dear Leader, “I’m relaxed about that suggestion…” 😀
Jo, what do you mean will Labour, Greens, Mana-Internet do the same? You’re not making any sense. Aside from which, Hager wrote a damning expose on the Labour government in 2002 called “Seeds of distrust”, haven’t you heard of it???
Also, “politics is a dirty business” is not an answer, it’s a cop out. You may not mind if some politicians are corrupt but I certainly do. The only way to clean up corruption is to make it plain to offending politicians that corrupt behaviour, whether left, right, up or down, is unacceptable.
By the way, Frank is right. There is no left-version of the “whale oil” blog. So as usual, youre spouting rubbish you can’t back up.
Jo seems to have gone a bit quiet on this…
