Legislation to introduce plain packaging of tobacco products passed its first reading in Parliament this week with almost unanimous support.

    There is no such thing as “freedom of choice ” in cigarette smoking when most smokers start out at 14. No one can make informed decisions at that young age. But by the time they mature, it’s too late and smokers are hooked. This is what libertarians don’t seem to grasp when they say it’s a “personal choice”. That is such a naive view which ignores the realities of tobacco, addiction, and a multi-billion dollar industry.

    Kudos to Tariana for her campaign! What an amazing woman!
