The Editor

John Key must be losing the plot to be making outrageous,
vile comments like this, condemning Hone Harawira's
decision to attend Nelson Mandela's funeral,

"This is a guy that went to South Africa on a jolly and
shouldn't be billing the taxpayer for it. The bottom line is
we took a delegation - whether he likes it or not - that
represented, in our view, the right mix. I personally don't
believe there was a role for him to go to South Africa."

If anyone had a right to attend Mandela's funeral, it was
Hone Harawira - one of the leading figures in the 1981
anti-Tour movement. Not two ex-National ministers who
supported the Tour (Bolger and McKinnon).

Certainly Harawira had more right to attend than John Key.
At least Harawira could remember which side of the Tour he
was on.

Shame on you, Mr Key, for indulging in childish, petty,
political point-scoring, before Mandela was even laid to

Radio NZ: Key criticises Harawaira for tax-funded trip for Mandela funeral

The only insult, John Key and the other “trash” going. There were many, Hone included, who hould have been in the official group.

Indeed, Peter. There was a news story of a commemoration at Hamilton’s rugby park. Former Red Squad leader Ross Meurant stepped up and apologised,

. “The greatest journey has been my personal development, from deep in the forest of police culture and distorted reality, to the ability to see where I was wrong – and where the system fails us.”

Mr Mintosaid it was appropriate for Mr Meurant to attend the commemoration and to address the crowd.

Personally speaking, it would have been the height of symbolism if Minto, Meurant, and Harawira had attended Mandela’s funeral.

Considering Key couldn’t even remember the 1981 tour or his feelings on it, perhaps it would have been better if he’d stayed home and delegated the responsibility to Minto, Meurant, and Harawira.
