The “Sack Shearer” video

.

the-fool

.

Mentioned on TV’s the Nation this morning, was this curious, anonymously-produced video on You Tube;

.

.

Ostensibly, the 43 second long  video was produced by “Rank And File Labour, Wellington”. But there is no name or organisational identification attached to it.

.

I have four questions or observations to make on this vid;

1. Why is it anonymous?

There are plenty of left-wing activists and commentators (Martyn Bradbury and Chris Trotter to name but two) who could have fronted this.

Adding a name or names would have given it credibility and “legs”. Making it anonymous reduces any impact or value it might have had on the issue. (Who do the media go to for comment? No one. How does the story gain traction? It doesn’t. Aside from brief commentary, it vanishes.)

2. Too Professional?!

For an amateur video by “rank and file”, it appears to be an  awfully slick, polished piece of media. Too professional by far. As if it were done by an experienced, politically-savy, publicity company? A publicity company like…  right-wing propaganda merchants, Textor-Crosby?

3. Who paid?

If it was as professional as it appears – who paid for it?

4. A secret? In New Zealand?

If it was produced from within the Left, how on Earth could it have been kept a secret? We’re such a small  nation – everyone is basically two or three degrees removed from each other. Is it really feasible that there would be no “whispers” or hints as to who created this video?

Upshot

I could be totally wrong, and possibly this is indeed a vid produced by one or two Labour or other left-wing  activists, who’ve managed to keep it “in house”.

But if it is, by keeping it anonymous, the message of Labour’s leadership is lost and diluted as people instead play parlour guessing-games as to who authored this.

If I had to place a bet, it would be ten bucks on Textor-Crosby, or a bunch of Young Nats or Act on Campus, playing silly-buggers.

    Its a National party dirty tricks contribution from the Liberal Party in Australia. They have been supporting the Nats from before 2008…

    Sorry but I assumed it was made by someone on the right as a false flag…. distraction effort.

    Why would the Nats want to destabilise Shearer’s leadership. While Shearer is leader of the NZ Labour party the Nats will remain in power. I fear this is the work of disillusioned left wingers as I don’t think it is National’s best interest to destabilise Shearer’s leadership. If this is the work of Labour activists it is naïve and will be self-defeating and only further convince the Electorate that Labour is not fit to govern. If this is indeed the work of right wing activists I guess this is just the beginning of more dirty tricks we will see from this nasty callous government in the next 15 months .

      And that thought crossed my mind as well, Mooloo…

    I suspect they’re Greens – blue=green at that! There’s nothing I would past those people. Shearer is great, and polls are utter nonsense, so getting rid of Shearer because of dodgy polls would be a huge mistake!

    This is a distraction….having just listened (love MySky) to Q&A at 8.30 pm Sunday, and Keys response to questions, all I heard was gobbledygook – the guy is just “obeying orders”. A bankster- globalisation shill, an NSA plant just “obeying orders” patsy. Forget these personality love-fests. It is neoliberalism v social democracy that we should be arguing, debating, and who, which political party, is dragging people out of poverty – hey, what happened to the egalitarian, Jack is as good as his master – equal opportunity society NZ pioneered? What dragged the Western world out of poverty post the 1929-33 global meltdown? “Education” – which led to productive, meaningful employment; social housing which saw bank managers, neighbors with union representatives, comparing their “home brew” undrinkable beer on a Sunday morning, and a universal health system that gave every man, woman and child an equal start in life ? What gets up the nose is a Prime Minister, who enjoyed these “social democratic” opportunities, pissing on the nouveau – todays “underclass”…….Key’s choice of words.
    Am I missing something here ? Did anyone on this blog hear the interview with Key on Q&A?
    We have real, serious, social problems, a growing inequality between the haves and the have nots, that is an abomination, and all we can do is get into a personality Shearer v Whoever debate? Ok that is my rant for today and, having said that, I agree, Labour has a problem and it is more than just Shearer v Whoever- it is policies, policies policies and who is the best person to take on Key’s smart arse, smiling assassin, persona? Who can demolish him in a debate? Has the experience, the background, the history? More importantly, put the social democratic values v the neoliberal”greed is good” ideology and bring the ‘citizens’ (I am not a subject of Lizzie Tish in London) into the debate?
    That was a disgusting interview with Key on Q&A ! That is where I came into this debate – over and out.

      To be honest, mcclairy, I was of two minds in posting about this… But I found it so intriguing that I couldn’t resist. Plus – who knows – someone might email me anonymously with info on this… 😉

    Chris Trotter & Drunk’n Gardner made it up about the time the coup was on, or not?

    • 12 August 2013 at 1:12 pm

      Hmmm, dunno, “D”. Anonymity doesn’t seem like Chris’ style… I could be wrong, but. I guess this devolves into one of those parlour guessing-games, kind of like “who killed JFK?”.
