FFS… there are better ways to deal with this gender-gap problem than with an announcement like this…

A case of emotional youth, I believe. 2017 could see Labour looking to be re-elected. Such policy won’t come to pass – the idea of gender equality will.

Gender equality I fully endorse, Pete. No “buts” about it from me.

It’s the clumsy way they gone about announcing their policy that elicited a major facepalm from me. They’ve got to get their act together or the electorate will simply turn away from Labour…

By comparison, the Alliance in the 1990s had full gender equality on the Party List (it was alternated male/female/male/female/etc). But the way the Alliance presented it to the electorate was more subtle and without over-hyped fanfare that might ‘spook’ the punters…

Was the policy released or leaked?

Mr Geddis has a wonderful post on the topic which is really quite enlightening.

I dids indeed read it, Martin, and I concur; it was indeed enlightening. In fact I probably agree with it whole-heartedly. I think it’s more the way it was released (not leaked as far as I’m aware) that had me shaking my head…

Personally, I’m quite happy if Labour is more proactive in encouraging women to stand on both the Party list and electorate seats.
