thugby has done more damage to this country than any other single activity outside of politics. The over importance put on chasing a ball around a paddock would be ridiculous if it wasn’t the cause of so much anguish and pain through the conditioning of violence and the hero worship of often nothing more than thuggery. This is another example of wasted money that could go to a far bettor cause but the sway of the ball is to great.Thank god that kids at least have more choice at school these days than they used to.(with regard to sports)

      Indeed, Keith.

It was a game I studiously avoided whilst at school and High School. (I preferred soccer and softball.)

If NZ on Air has so much money to throw around, why not a movie about something from our colonial past? Or The Depression. Or Norman Kirk? Or Kate Sheppard?

Maybe a remake of “Smith’s Dream”?

From pre-colonial times, ee even have our own version of “Romeo and Juliet”, Hinemoa and Tutanekai. And never mind Thor, or Hercules, we have our own demi-god, Maui. Plenty of drama from those stories.

There are so many other options we have. For a short post-colonial history, we have a wealth of material to choose from.

Instead, NZ On Air wants to tell a $3 million story about kicking a ball.

      Gods preserve me.

I’m sure it won’t be all about the ball kick; there’ll be a fair bit about the National Party’s flawless execution of a sporting triumph (with no stalled rail cars, or 3way handshakes, to be seen). I’m guessing at an air-date of just before the election.
